Diary of a TCG Newbie: Week 6

Join Vault X intern and card beginner Gabz as she learns about the TCG and accessories industry across six weeks…

Deary Diary,

And just like that, my final week at Vault X is over!

This week has mostly consisted of me tying up loose ends before I leave. 🙁 I also released the second TikTok for ‘One Card, One Memory’ and I am really pleased with how well it has done so far. Two new blog posts are also up, featuring the wonderful Charceus and Ginamon.

I can’t quite sum up in words how amazing these last six weeks have been. It has been fascinating to immerse myself in a completely unfamiliar field, and I have loved the challenge. The amount I have learned – from business marketing strategies and the three-second TikTok rule to Pokémon trivia and why people start collecting in the first place – has been incredible, and I have felt so supported by the Vault X Team. I honestly couldn’t have asked for more genuine and inspirational people to have had the privilege of learning from, and I miss them already! To thank the team, I bought them a personalised Pikachu light. I’m glad to say that I now know more Pokémons…

A real highlight of my placement has been understanding just how important TCG’s are to people. Cards hold so much meaning and so many memories, and it has been a real honour to hear the stories that people have. It has also been wonderful to have been part of the TCG community for a short while and let in with open arms. Everyone is so welcoming and I love how they are all united by a shared love for something so wholesome.

Now for the big question – will I keep up with the TCG world now that I’ve left Vault X? In short, YES! I’ve started to really enjoy watching TikToks and YouTube videos of people’s collections. I find it super satisfying and I love the aesthetic. Will I buy my own? I’m not too sure just yet. The money and time it requires are intense and I think I’m better focusing on my studies for the moment. However, never say never. After all, working for six weeks in something that I knew nothing about prior and having had the best time, I have learned that nothing is off the cards (no pun intended)…

My last day, although bittersweet, has been so lovely. We’ve eaten sushi, cookies, done group yoga, taken polaroids, and much more. What more could you possibly want for your final shift?

To those of you who have followed my blog every week, THANK YOU! It means a lot to me and I really hope you have enjoyed following my journey. And to the Vault X team – thank you for sharing your world with me. ❤️

Love,

Gabz 🚀
