Diary of a TCG Newbie: Week 3

Join Vault X intern and card beginner Gabz as she learns about the TCG and accessories industry across six weeks…

Dear Diary,

I’m HALFWAY through my placement! I seriously underestimated just how quickly it would go. I’m already starting to feel emotional about leaving, and dare I say it, heavily considering taking up the hobby of card collecting afterwards. However, I’m not quite sure I have enough student finance to be able to complete more than one page of a binder…

This week has been SUPER busy, but equally as fun. At the start of the week, I shot some content around the new Lorcana ‘Reign of Jafar’ booster box. I’m starting to think I need to get my nails painted as my hands seem to feature heavily in videos and I don’t think they’re the most flattering when au naturel! It was really fun playing around with different shots and angles to try and make opening the box as interesting as possible; something that is actually incredibly hard to do!

On Tuesday, I prepped for the big Content Day on Wednesday. I edited scripts, wrote prompts, practiced with cameras, and put Vault X products into boxes ready to take down to the studio the next day. I was pretty nervous as I have a love-hate relationship with tech (apologies, Pete, about the printer). However, I managed to push my worries aside and had the best day!

A cozy studio setup featuring two armchairs with pink cushions, a small table with notebooks, and a laptop. Three framed artworks hang on a wooden wall, with green lighting adding ambiance.

We shot content for two and a half hours straight and I found it an invaluable experience. It was helpful to realise that not everything has to be perfect the first time and that a lot of media projects are mostly trial and error. I also shot other videos throughout the day for a TikTok about a ‘Day in the Life of an Intern’. I was quite the fool, taking videos of everything from stairs to door handles, but hey ho! Anything for a good piece of content!

The remainder of the week was a lot calmer. I began editing my videos and caught up with multiple admin tasks. The monthly ‘Meeple’ night on Friday also finished the week off perfectly. We ate amazing pizza, played games (I played surprisingly well), and drank prosecco: in my opinion, the perfect Friday night!

After a busy week, it’s now time to catch up on some well-deserved rest!

Until next time,
